So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, comformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. -Christopher McCandless
But it can get so lonely on your own.
*Edit: At the time I reblogged this I’d never seen Into The Wild but I just wanna say what the fuck?! Seriously, I was so thoroughly disappointed with it, the whole foolishness of “yeah let’s go off in the Alaskan fucking wilderness with no cold weather survival skills whatsoever and then people will regard me as a hero and such an inspiration when I die of starvation” idk people can get pissed about this and cry about it and be “offended” all they want but I in no way found Chris McCandless (think that’s how it’s spelled) to be an inspiration, I did however find his death tragic and unnecessary and his conviction - however sorely misguided - somewhat admirable.
